A visit to a city gets you a visit to a hotel you never heard of... |
You arrive at a strange city, ostensibly to visit old friends but really wanting to have the experience of a lifetime. You separted from your spouse just last month, with your former partner claiming you were more exciting when you first met. The city tour with your friend is predictable, with nice sights, a decent lunch at a fine restaurant and some tame conversation. Over the course of the day, you talk about the pervasive boredom in your life now, a boring job with few challenges and even fewer interesting people. You have considered quitting and moving, but your house is nice and there are just too many things to weigh you done and keep you there. They listen politely, nod at your compliments to them and laugh hollowly at your jokes. A walk through a nearby park and more conversation at a bench until nearly sunset. They look like they are impatient and say "Well, I shouldn't keep you with more lack-luster talk. I'm sure you are tired. I think I'll just walk around a bit first before heading to my room for the night." They look at you expectantly, and she says "I think we can tell him, as he is single now. " The husband says "Yes, I think so." He reaches into his inside jacket pocket and retrieves an envelope and hands it to you. Give this to that cab driver waiting by the light. Tell him to take you there." You ask the what is at the destination, and they shake their heads, saying "You can't be told in advance. Thats how this works." |
