Andrew was standing at the traffic light, waiting for the light to change. With each passing second, he was growing ever more impatient. As he looked out before him, he saw four rows of cars blocking the path between him and the other side of the street, preventing him from crossing. All he could see was the spot on the other side, at the base of the other side of the street, next to the bus stop, where he desperately wanted to be at that moment in time. He fixed his eyes at that location.
Then, like an answered prayer, in a blink of an eye, Andrew suddenly found himself standing next to that bus stop, while holding his carton of milk in his right hand. This time, he was facing the traffic, but he was clearly standing on the opposite side of the road, facing the supermarket where he just came from.
“What the…?” he asked himself, as he looked around. “Did I cross the street already?”
For a moment, Andrew looked around in complete confusion. He was lost and disoriented.
“Wasn’t I just standing on the other side of the street?” he whispered to himself. “Did I just cross the street and then forget how I got here?”
Andrew slowly turned around and walked home, but several questions filled his mind. Was he losing his mind? Did he just suffer a memory lapse? Did he just cross the street and forget that he crossed it? Why couldn’t he remember walking across the street just now?
He stopped and turned around, and he noticed that the light had finally changed just now.
“That’s strange! The light changed now…” he said to himself. “But I’m already here… How did I get here?”
Andrew turned around again and continued to walk home.
As soon as he made it back, he unlocked the door and he walked in. Then he strolled into the kitchen and placed the carton in the refrigerator.
“Man… I’m thirsty… But I’m in no mood for milk right now…” he thought, just when he spotted a two-liter bottle of soda, which sat unopened in the bottom shelf of the fridge.
He reached down and grabbed the bottle and closed the door. He poured himself a glass of soda before he sat down at his laptop in his bedroom. He decided he wasn’t going to worry about the weird incident anymore, because he had crossed the street and he just couldn’t remember doing it…
