"Yeah. .....Yeah......... Yeah......OK"
Jack looked serious. Sam kept eating but watched Jack talking on the phone.
"That was my Dad."
Sam chewed thoughtfully.
"Well, what does he want?"
"I gotta go home. My grandma's sick and Mom needs to go stay with her. He isn't sure about me being home alone so we'eve got to talk."
"Sorry about your Gram." Sam loved his gram because she loved to fix treats for him and didn't mind his games.
"I don't get to see her much because she lives so far away. Dad says shes not dying or anything just getting over a bad fall. I gotta go. I'll catch up with you later."
Jack grabs his laptop and hurries home.
There he finds his Mom hurriedly packing. She keeps talking to Jack about what he needs to know while she is gone. Then his Dad gets home. While his Mom finishes her packing, Jack gets a stern lecture about behaving himself while he is on his own. Jack puts up with it all, nodding agreement while hearing very little. He is imagining what he can do. Soon they are gone to the airport.
"I'll see you tonight." Jack's Dad calls as the door shuts.
