Taking Home a Human

by: Bruce Lee Gifford Jr. Author IconMail Icon
The dragon realized that it might be hours till she woke up. He decided that it was probably best to just bring her to his cave. It would be easier to protect her from the animals and it would be better than walking in the dark to bring her back to her village. Besides, if he walked her to the village, there was a chance that he would be spotted. He didn't know what the villagers would do to him, if they spotted him in the village. Plus, he didn't know what would happen to the human girl if people saw her with him, because people saw him as a monster.

The dragon gently picked the girl up with one of his front paws and held her close to his chest as he walked to his cave on only three legs. It was a lot harder to walk with only three legs and it caused him to walk slowly. The sun had already set before he arrived at his cave.

The dragon set her down in the ground carefully so that he could push the boulder out of the way of his cave. Once he did that he brought the girl in his cave with him and closed up the entrance. The dragon walked deep into the cave where he had set up his bedding. The dragon lied down on the soft bedding and set the human girl against his side.

The dragon stared at the human or a long time. "She didn't run from me, and she comforted me in my time of need," the dragon thought, "Maybe I've finally found someone who could be my friend. Maybe things will finally be different."

The dragon curled up around the human girl and covered her up with his wing. He was glad to finally have a human with him. he had been lonely for so long and he hoped that things would finally change for the better. The dragon didn't want to fall asleep, because he wanted to talk to what he thought was his friend. However, it was possible that the human wouldn't wake until morning. So, the dragon reluctantly fell asleep.
