A child becomes an outcast, because the child is half human

This choice: Yes  •  Go Back...
The next mourning, the kitsune was the first to awaken. He opened eyes and yawned. He was about to get up and stretch, but he then felt small movements against his neck. He turned his head slightly to see a small human lying against his neck. Upon seeing Astrid, he started to remember everything that had happened the other day. He was gladdened to find out that the whole thing wasn't a dream.

The kitsune didn't get up, because he didn't want to disturb Astrid. She was sleeping peacefully against his neck, and the kitsune didn't want to wake her up. So, he just laid there and stared at the sleeping Astrid. It was at that time that the kitsune began to realize her beautiful she really was. "Not only is she beautiful," the kitsune thought, "but she is kind as well. I think I'm falling in love with her!"

Suddenly, Astrid started to stir and waken. The kitsune closed his eyes and pretended to sleep. He didn't want Astrid to wake up to him staring at her, because he still feared that she would eventually see him as a freak and leave like everyone else in his life. However, Astrid had no intention to leave the kitsune.

Astrid woke up and yawned while stretching her arms above her head. Once that was done, she looked to the kitsune's large head and saw his eyes were closed. She thought he was asleep and she started to slowly push off his paw. His paw was large and could almost cover her whole body, so it was hard to push off. The kitsune peeked as she did this and she didn't notice his eyes were open. Astrid was having troubles pushing the heavy paw off her. So, the kitsune helped her by taking his paw off, but he still made it look like she had pushed it off.

The kitsune shut his eyes again as Astrid stood up and walked over to his head. Astrid then approached the muzzle and stroked it. The fur was soft and warm. Astrid then leaned against it giving it a hug while still stroking it with one of her hands. The kitsune then pretended to wake up and he nuzzled her while he said, "Good morning."

"I thought of a name for you," Astrid replied, "but I'm not good with names because, I only know a few."

"It doesn't matter," the kitsune informed her, "Any name you give me will be great, because just having a name would mean the world to me."

"OK, how about Kyle?" she asked.

"Kyle it a great name," the kitsune exclaimed excited to just have a name after all those years, "What made you think of the name Kyle?"

"Well, there had been another slave that had been with me at the place I had escaped from. He was a very kind man and he helped me escape. Since you had saved me from those wicked people and you have been so generous to let me stay, I thought that you should have that name."

Kyle thanked Astrid for the name as he got up and stretched. As he stretched, both he and Astrid noticed that there was something very different about him. What was it?
