Playing with the emotions and desires of humans was how kitsunes amused themselves. To them, humans were little more than toys. Confident in this knowledge, Karston left in spite of the kitsune's crying. A good distance away, sure that he was safe, Karston stopped and rested on the grass. He was exhausted after running from that bear and almost getting trapped by a kitsune, but he was safe and proud of himself.
Really hungry now Karston dug into what was left of the bread and berries, as he thought of what to do next. Returning to town was not an option, since they would just kill him. Karston did not even know where the nearest town was. Obviously if he followed the road long enough, he would get to one, but he had no water. Would he get there before he died? He couldn't survive in the woods, couldn't go back to town, and had no guaranty of making it anywhere else.
"Did I survive a kitsune only to die in the woods?" Karston shouted his frustration to the sky. "Wait the kitsune.”
Karston began going over everything he had ever heard about kitsunes. Having lived in a town with its own Kitsune they were naturally a favorite topic. Many where the tales of young men who were seduced by the kitsune, but that didn't fit. Kitsunes only seduced married men otherwise it wouldn’t be much of a joke. All of the other firsthand accounts were of people being approached by her only to flee before she could spirit them away. Stories from elsewhere typically had the kitsune as little more than a nuisance , but there were also tales of kitsunes taking humans away to do who knows what with them. On rare occasions someone, usually a traveler passing though, would bring up tales of kitsunes actually helping humans.
"This is getting me nowhere, “ Karston growled again, frustrated. "I have two options. Either I can go back and see if the kitsune will not kill me or I can go to the road and." Karston trailed off there and looked around. It took him a minute to realize that after running from both the villagers and the bear, he had no idea where he was. "Great! Do I really have no other choice then to beg for mercy from a mystic fox?"
Karston collapsed back onto the grass and pulled out the odd stone he always cared around. It was a golden brown color, slightly translucent, about the size of his fist, and very light for its size. When he had first found it Karston thought it was a gem stone, but the jeweler called it amber and had no interest in buying it. Since then, Karston was glad he hadn’t sold it. He found it very soothing to look through it and thought of it as his own personal treasure. Finally, he got the courage to stand up and walk back to where he had met the kitsune.

The kitsune had been crying in the bushes fore several minutes, not just over her latest rejection but the rather harsh reminder of her father. Just as she was about to head back to her dean for the night, she heard someone approaching. Peering out, she was surprised to see the boy from earlier returning.
[i]What is he doing back here? Does he want to mock me more? Well he won’t be making a foul of me; I'm going to scare him off for good."
She watched as the boy sat on a rock. With a mischievous grin, she snuck up behind him and grew from the size of a normal sized fox to nearly twenty feet at the shoulder. For once, she would actually enjoy scaring someone. Taking a deep breath the Kitsune let lose the loudest bark she could muster right behind the boy. He jumped clear of the rock, tried to turn around, tripped and fell on his back. Continuing the act, the kitsune advanced on the boy snarling as loud as she could, making sure to hold her carnivorous teeth right at eye level. The boy crawled backwards, away from her a ways, then stopped, the fear slowly draining from his face. No matter how loud the Kitsune growled or no matter how many fake bites she made at him, he did not move. She began to panic. She had no idea what to do now, and the snarl slowly faded from her face.
"Hello again, Ms.," the boy shuttered.
"What do you won’t, why have you come back?" the kitsune snapped.
"Well Ms. I came here to, um, give myself to you and hope you have mercy on me," he said quietly not looking in her eyes; it was clear he didn't want to do this.
