This choice: They take the train to Kurain Village. • Go Back...Chapter #6At Kurain by: Unknown Maya and Pearl got off the train at Kurain. “See, Pearly? We made it here safe, and there’s no way a spirit could harm you while you are here.” Maya thought back to a disturbing case that had taken place here when a spirit had supposedly killed someone, but the real killer was someone pretending to be a spirit.
Pearl followed Maya up the steps of Fey Manor. The little girl had finally come to peace with her situation, but she stumbled a bit as she walked, because of her unaccustomed new weight.
“Some of the head spirit mediums should be conducting training in the practice halls,” Maya said. “We’ll get you some help, Pearly.”
“Ho ho ho ho ho! My, my, If it isn’t young Maya Fey.”
Maya turned to look at a short, stout woman behind them. “Sister Bikini! What are you doing down here? Shouldn’t you be at Hazakura Temple?”
“Oh, don’t worry about the temple. I have Iris watching over it. Oh, you didn’t hear the good news? Because Iris was an unwilling accomplice to that murder, and she has been on her best behavior in detention, she’s able to serve out the rest of her sentence under house arrest at the Hazakura property. Anyho, they just wanted to come down to Kurain to help teach some new advanced channeling techniques. Who’s that behind you?”
“Oh, this is my cousin Pearl. You should remember her from our visit.”
“Oh, dear me, yes! I would forget my undergarments if Iris didn’t fold them up and place them on my bed in the morning! Ha ha ha ho ho ho!”
Maya tried not to cringe at the sight of that image.
“Well, Pearl seems to have grown a bit since I saw her last. I always say, people grow out before they grow up! Except, it never really worked for me…oh well.”
“That’s why we’re here, actually.” Maya handed Bikini copies of the newspaper articles Phoenix had made. “It seems Pearl’s been possessed at spirit that indirectly causes Pearly to gain weight.”
Bikini looked through the clippings. “Tut, tut! Can’t have a rogue spirit plaguing our young acolyte, can we? I have a few ideas I think might work…”
