Chapter #4

The Old Stories

    by: Unknown
Lisa sighed, it looked like she wasn't going to get anything interesting out of him. Just some old rumor.

"A curse?" She asked.

"Well, I've only heard the story. It's like a fairy tale around these parts, I don't believe it but there are people who do. It won't take long to tell you it if you want."

"Go on then." Lisa said, rolling her eyes.

"Okay, a long time ago this town was like any normal town. There was an obese woman named Rebecca Park who weighed more then 500 lbs. Most of the residents bullied her constantly which usually happens when a slim person sees an obese woman. A lot of people thought she was a circus woman or something. Anyway one day there was a strange visitor to the town. According to the story she was a witch. When she found out what was happening to the woman she cursed the town. Everybody who lived there at the time immediately gained weight, many of them wound up larger then Rebecca. The witch then told the mayor of the time that if a person were to have a baby, that baby would be born overweight, gain weight easily and have a large appetite. This meant that to this day, the town has remained fat. There was also one other factor to the curse. People who visit the town will be unaffected if they do not think badly of people who are fat but if they do they will find themselves as fat as the residents of the town. They will also find that their metabolism has lowered and their appetite has grown."

Lisa listened to the story, noting down key points in her notebook. She looked up back at the cab driver when he finished speaking.

"And you said there are people who believe this?"

The driver laughed before he answered her.

"Yes, there are some fat people who have come here and have claimed to have been effected by the curse, probably to stir up trouble. I know one of these people and I am witness to the fact that they were fat when they got here."

"Sounds pretty strange. So some people believe them?" She asked.

"Well naturally in a town as large as this, excuse the pun, there are always going to be a few people who believe the stirrers." He replied.

The cab started to slow as it approached a large building to the side of the road. A nearby sign confirmed that the building was the Hotel that Lisa was staying in.

"Is that visitor you mentioned still in town?" Lisa asked, gathering her stuff around her.

"Well he decided to get a house here, so I would say yes. I can give you his name and address if you want."

"That would be perfect!" Lisa stated. There was no way that the curse was true but even so, she could include it in her story for comedic effect.
