Chapter #2

A monstrous bat

Elith decided she needed to find her way home, crying wasn't gonna do her any good, so she flew up as high as she could hoping to see her forest home beyond the huge sprawling city.

The tall grey buildings seemed to taunt her as they blocked her view of the surrounding landscape. Elith struggled against the cold wind that buffeted her young body. Flying higher and higher, climbing, climbing....Then a dark shape came screaming at her from the nightime sky! A monstrous bat!

In the forest bats could be eluded by flying into the hollows of a tree and Elith hoped with all her heart that the same rules would apply for buildings! She darted towards the nearest building looking for a way inside the seemingly impenetrable facade of stone.

The bat cut off her escape snapping viciously at her wings as it passed. Elith screamed with terror and sprinted blindly in the opposite direction. An open window and the beckoning wave of a human woman! salvation from the winged horror!

Elith flew into the warm air of the human dwelling and collapsed with exhaustion and terror onto a huge soft surface, the room spun wildly around her and then she swooned and knew no more.
