"Yes," you say with a sigh. "it's all down to that remote."
Her expression wears a vague satisfaction at working it out for herself. She smiles as she examines the settings whilst still aiming at you. Her lengthy pause gives you cause for concern.
"What are you going to do?" you ask her.
She looks back at you. "You know, it's funny," she begins. "I was really worried at first. Clothes weren't fitting right, shoes were splitting on me. I thought I was gaining weight until I realised one day that I was nearly as tall as my sister."
You recall Abby's sister, Gayle. She left school a couple of years ago and was one of the tallest people in the school. She played basketball, her 6'3" slender frame was built for it.
Abby continued. "I was over the fucking moon that day! She always used to poke fun at my height, kept teasing me because I could never do sports as well as her. But then I carried on growing - you should have seen her face when she found out I'd grown bigger than her." Abby's smirk was widening into a massive grin. "When they thought it was contagious, she kept trying to get close to me, even though I can tell she hated it - hated being smaller than me for once. There was one time, probably when I was a foot smaller than I am now when I was watching something on TV, lying on the couch and she practically begged to share the chair with me, even though she would never sit with me before. I got pretty pissed off and pushed her away - the little bitch nearly started crying!"
You began to think about what kind of people you've allowed to be let loose with this immense power. You hadn't heard of any significant incidents yet but now that the students were getting bigger and bigger, was it only a matter of time?
"Then I got some bullshit lecture from my parents about responsibility and not abusing my gift." She snorted in disapproval. "If only they knew how it felt to be forced to live with her all that time. It felt sweet getting my own back!"
You repeat your question, asking what she's planning to do now. She looks at you with curiosity.
"To think, some people were calling it an act of God, some thought it was a virus... in the end it was just nerdy Moe, with a magic remote!"
