You search Claire's memories and find out that her and Prof. Harding are more or less best friends. They're around the same age though Jillian Harding is a genius. She was recruited by the military and though she works for them, she actively despises them for the most part. You figure you can trust her.
"Um, well actually..." you start, "I'm not Lt. Claire Briggs."
Prof. Harding looks at you, then laughs. "Oh, and if you are not you, then who might you be, hmm? Who exactly am I looking at, then?" she muses.
"Well, actually, my name is David." You say. "I was coming home from school earlier today and I just got this urge to check out this place. So I managed to sneak in and while looking around, I came across a storehouse. I went in and there were containers, quite a bit of them, filled with some... some blue liquid. I guess I must have hit one of them because a few of them fell over and splashed me. After getting caught, I managed to somehow turn into that liquid and escape." you explain, pausing.
"Hmm..." Prof. Harding mutters, "Alright, go on."
"Okay, so after getting back home, I decide to come back later and see what was going on here. I was scoping the place out when Claire stopped me. When she turned to leave, I turned into liquid and decided to see what would happen if I entered her body." you explain. "Well, turns out that I managed to get complete control; like possession. And a short while ago, I realized I had access to everything: her memories, her personality. Basically, I could mimic her perfectly."
After a bit of silence, Prof. Harding speaks up. "And let me guess, you came to me because of how close Claire and myself are, thinking I could help you right?"
You nod nervously.
"Well, I'd be more than happy to!" she exclaimed. "This is all very interesting, you see. That liquid you saw was something I managed to cook up. See, you get a little bit of that stuff on something like metal or fabric and it proceeds to work like acid." she explains, "Only, instead of dissolving, it melts. Turns it into more of my prized gunk. I had been wondering what would happen if it got onto a living organism... more specifically a person. You have proven to be a wonderful accidental guinea pig, David." she finished, practically beaming with pride and joy.
"Um, so... you're a mad scientist." you say.
"No no no, not mad. That implies psychosis and I assure you I have all my wits about me. No, the term I prefer is esoteric." she corrected. "Yes, an esoteric scientist. Sounds far less frightening, doesn't it?"
"Uh, s-sure. I guess so." you respond.
After more awkward silence, Prof. Harding began to think. The wheels in her head turning. "Say, David... I would like to study you some more. What do you say? I can get some valuable data on your abilities and you will be able to explore what them in greater detail."
After thinking it over for a moment, you nod in agreement. "Sure. That, uh, could be good. Yeah."
"Well it's settled!" Prof. Harding exclaimed. "I was about to head home anyway so if you want, you may use my body to get to head on over to my place."
"Huh? Don't you live on base?" you ask.
"Oh heavens no. Hate it here. I'd go crazy. And I'm far too valuable to these jerks for that so they allow me to live in my own place off base." she responds.
You give it some thought and decide...
