Chapter #6

A friend of yours drops by!

by: Detective Barricade Author IconMail Icon
While you try to enjoy your coffee, Molly's ears perk up. Yet she remains quiet, possibly really into the book she's reading. Usually when her ears do that a bark or two isn't far away. Then the doorbell rings. Shrugging, you go to the door to see who it is. No sooner do you unlock the door does it nearly slam into your face with the person on the other side opening it so quickly. "Hey, buddy! Thought I'd drop in! ...You okay?"

Kris. It had to be Kris. She's just a few inches shorter than you at 5'10", and almost constantly full of energy. She's really quite pretty. "I'm...fine, Kris. Er, how many times have I asked you to wait for me to open the door instead of flinging it open yourself?" you say.

"Whoops. Sorry. I'll try to remember for next time." Kris replies sheepishly, then asks, "Say...don't you have a dog here? Molly, wasn't it? Where is she? Doesn't she like greeting people? ...You didn't..."

"I haven't sold Molly, and I haven't put her down. I'm guessing you want to see her?" you answer, slightly worriedly.

"Well...yeah. Why wouldn't I? She's such a nice dog, and sooo soft and fluffy!" Kris replies excitedly at the thought. Sometimes you wonder if her brain was still that of a 10 year old rather than the 24 year old she is...

You were afraid of this. You have no idea how Molly became...how she is, much less explain it to someone else. Kris is sensible...most of the time, and you've never kept a secret from her, so why start now? "Alright, fine. Give me a sec." you tell her, then go back into the kitchen.

Kris crouches down in anticipation of Molly running into her open arms to greet her...but gets a surprise when she sees a pair of dog paws that make a great dane's look like a chihuahua's. Heck, they're bigger than anyone's feet she's ever met. Kris' mouth opens agape as she looks up...and up...and up. "Hiya, Kris! Er, you don't need to be crouching down like that..."

"M-Molly?! You...you can talk?! What happened to you, girl?" Kris stammers in disbelief, further compounded by the fact Molly still towers way over her even after standing up again. As everything sinks in, Kris begins to take in Molly's other features. She herself has a modest C cup and an hourglass figure she's proud to show off when she can, but Molly makes her seem utterly flat as a board.

"It's a question I'd like to know myself." you admit from behind Molly. "I go to bed last night with her as a perfectly normal dog, and I wake up to...well, this."

"Eheh...guess that makes three of us..." Molly answers sheepishly with a hand behind her head. "I don't know what happened to me last night, only that I woke up like this. But I like it! It's like a dream come true!"

"She's always wanted to be capable of doing the things humans can do, apparently." you explain before Kris asks, and then offer, "Um, how about some coffee? It might be a tad cold now, but there's still some left in the pot."

Kris quickly nods in agreement and follows you to the kitchen. Molly closes the door and then returns to her book, tail wagging behind her. You pour a cup of coffee for your friend as pitch black as her hair and give it to her. You then get a glass and fill it with water for Molly to sip on, trusting her not to spill it all over the book. It still feels very weird to be doing this for what's been your pet for the past few years, but it's something you're just going to have to get used to.

Speaking of which...can Molly even be considered your pet anymore? She easily seems as sentient...sapient...whatever as you, Kris, and any other human around. And your love for her hasn't changed, thus you want what's best for her... Finally, you settle on friend. It seems to fit nicely. ...You start realizing a lot of your decisions come down to 'seeming to fit nicely'.

Meanwhile, Kris sips at her coffee, looking at Molly with a mix of jealousy over having a superior figure than her and admiration. You know the kind of weird stuff your friend is into, including women of far greater than normal size. You don't question it, and occasionally enjoy a picture or story that she shares via email. In fact, it was one of those emails that Molly had been staring at on your laptop that time. "...Um, what is that smell? Did something burn?" she asks, sniffing.

"His toast burnt in the toaster. Any longer and I swear it would've tripped the smoke alarm." Molly answers.

"Dude, are you still using that hunk of crap?! It belongs in a museum it's so old!" Kris says.

"I've been meaning to replace it..." you respond weakly.

Kris' response:
