This choice: pretend you dont understand the language. • Go Back...
Chapter #2
Pondering Escape
by: Unknown
The other prisoner repeats his request -- he'll untie you if you untie him. You stare at him, trying to think through the wave of pain beating through your head. What to do? You quickly take stock of your situation -- a whole bunch of people stuck in a van. All of them except you are Mexican. It's probably a good idea if you keep your cards close to your chest and pretend you don't understand the language.
The man looks at you, repeating his request a third time, in a louder voice. As if you're going to understand him if he yells at you. The man driving the truck turns his head, yelling at both of you to settle down and be quiet, or you'll regret it.
You lay your head back down on the floor, facing a side window. It's darkly tinted, hard to see out of, and even harder to see into. You watch the streets fly by, block after block, and they all seem the same to you. Why didn't you take that tour bus like your aunt suggested, instead of going it alone in Mexico?
As your thoughts roam, you notice something about the window. The caulking around the outside edges are cracked. The glass rattles in the frame, as if a good kick would smash the glass, leaving the window frame empty. Could you bust the window with your feet, then wiggle through before the guy driving the truck has a chance to stop? And how well could you run with bound hands?
