The soccer field was buzzing with the usual energy of teenage competition, but today, it was about to witness something out of this world—literally. Drew, with a mischievous glint in his eye, watched his best friend Jared chase after the ball.
“Jared’s gravity is now off!” Drew whispered quietly to himself. With just four words, Drew instantly made his best friend completely weightless!
With a subtle flick of his wrist, Drew activated his alien-gifted powers, and Jared, much to his surprise, began to lift off the ground.
"Whoa, not again!" Jared exclaimed, his feet pedaling air as if that would bring him back down. The team, already used to Jared's 'gravity issues,' didn't miss a beat.
"Dude, did you forget your gravity pills at home?" one teammate joked, tossing a rope around Jared's waist to keep him from floating away. “COACH! Jared forgot his gravity pills again!”
The team somehow knew that Jared was the only kid on the planet who had this strange disease which occasionally rendered him completely weightless unless he took these “gravity pills”, or that was the story that Jared had told them once before. So, one of the boys started bringing a long, study, yellow rope to practice in which they tied a knot. They placed the rope around Jared’s waist, so it came up to his chest and under his arms.
Jared, now a human kite, bobbed above the field, his shadow dancing over the players. One of the boys had “Jared duty”, usually a boy who wasn’t playing, or sitting on the bench on the sidelines. He had to hold on to the rope, especially when a big gust of wind came, so Jared wouldn’t fly away, or else the boy would have to run after him.
Once the soccer match was over, the boys would meet, and if Jared was still weightless, they would figure out a way to have fun with their weightless teammate.
The older boys, finding the humor in the situation, decided to make the most of it.
"Hey, let's play catch!" one suggested, and soon enough, Jared was soaring between the boys, laughter echoing across the field.
One boy would easily grab hold of Jared by his leg with one hand, which was easy to do since Jared was weightless, and he would throw Jared high through the air. Another boy would run so that he would catch Jared’s soaring body using both arms. Luckily, because of him being weightless, Jared would never come down hard to the ground so he could get hurt. The boys would toss Jared around, and even younger family members would play. Jared was being tossed around by younger siblings, even those boys and girls who were only 5 or 6 years old! One girl just exhaled and blew air on him, sending him soaring through the air. All the kids had fun, up to the moment they got picked up by their parents to go home.
Just as the fun was reaching its peak, Drew decided it was time to reel it back in. With another flick, Jared's gravity returned, and he gently descended back to earth, landing softly on the grass.
“Oooh… Finally… I got tired of being tossed around by practically every member of the team…” Jared groaned, as he finally got on his feet for the first time in over an hour as Drew looked on.
"Teleportation time," Drew whispered, and in a blink, Jared was back in his room, recounting the day's adventure to Drew, who was trying his best to look innocent.
"Next time, I'm bringing my own rope," Jared said with a chuckle, already plotting how he could turn the tables on Drew one day. But that day would never come because Drew was the only one with all the power and Drew was in complete control over Jared’s mind and body. But Jared quietly began to love being controlled by his best friend because Drew was always looking out for him.
So, what does Drew do next?
