I’ve painted this picture for the cover of my third fantasy novel, ‘Where Rainbows Dance’. I plan to have the cover illustrated by Liga Klavina, who created an illustration for me before, but is it good enough? Comments and suggestions please!
The watercolour shows Aira and Boroden, the main characters, on the shore of their coastal kingdom. They’ve just had a hard battle against an evil kraken who seized their ancestral homeland in order to steal the elixir of immortality hidden in the sea caves.
The young dragon in the background is a friend of Aira’s and has just hatched, symbolising hope for this happy ending to the trilogy.
The frame is inspired by the beautiful frame that LÄ«ga Klavina painted on her illustration for my novel 'King of the House Elves'. I chose to paint the frame gold here so it stands out better against the dark sea cave background created for the covers for the series by Libertad Delgado.
