Hanukkah means “dedication,” “consecration” or “inauguration.”

The lamp stand in the Temple needed to remain lit every day, during the rededication rituals, which constituted every aspect and every part of the Temple as newly sacred. The issue was the apparent lack of oil for keeping the lamp lit for the time required. There was only enough oil available to keep the lamp lit for one day, but it was required for all eight days.

Therefore, the Festival of Lights (aka Hanukkah) is an honor and a tribute to Adonai, The GOD, Who kept the light burning miraculously for eight days.
