Car trouble is the pits. My family has never had a new car, and currently our 3 cars are between around 15 and 11 years old, so we're often presented with car maintainance, sometimes quite expensive! Years ago (I think in 1990) when my great-grandfather died, our only car was in the shop being worked on. We lived in Iowa and the funeral was in Michigan, so a member of our church loaned us a car for the trip. We thought it was so luxuirous -- newer and bigger than our Nissan Sentra! -- and my parents were so grateful to have a way to get to the funeral. Anyway, the week after we got home and returned the car, it blew up! Just...caught fire and burnt! Nobody was in it and nobody was hurt, thank goodness. It wasn't anyone's fault -- just a problem that got out of control, I guess. The sweet thing is that we felt kind of bad and shaken, like, oh boy, that could've happened while we were in the car, or, did we do something wrong to cause that? But the owners were just as shaken at the thought that their car might have burnt and hurt or killed us while we were borrowing it, so between all the relief that nobody got hurt, everything turned out okay. Except, I guess, the owners had to buy a new car. But hey, I was only 5 years old and I didn't think about that aspect then.... Visit my web site at http://elizabeth.bouma-holtrop.com! |
