I don't know about the general poulation, but I think Engoland, Northern Ireland, Ireland (Eire), Wales and Scotland all to be separate countries in their own right. They have their own parliaments, their own laws (just like each state in USA), their own languages and cultures and their own patron saint's days etc.
We're all British (except Eire, which really is a separate country altogether) but we have our own national identities too. So I'm English and British... And my grandparents are Welsh and British... Does that make sense?
