Goals: Like starting all over again (2025.04.28)
by Tobber Author IconMail Icon
The last three weeks or so have thrown me completely off course. A bout of the flu, then Easter holidays, then a stomach infection meant three weeks of nearly no writing, very little reading, next to no exercise, and getting seriously behind on everything at work. I had a lot of good habits going, and now it feels like I have to start all over.

That's probably not entirely true, and hopefully it won't be the monumental task it seems like right now to slip back into those habits. Still, I feel pretty overwhelmed and low on energy, so I'm aiming low.

Also, I'm going to structure my goals list a bit different too, splitting it into core and stretch goals instead of writing and non-writing goals.

Core Goals There are the main goals, the ones I will focus on first.

*Box* Write, edit, or outline every day: This is always my number one priority, but even this one I haven't achieved for two or three weeks now. If I can just achieve this one goal, I will count the week as successful (at least in regards to writing).

*Box* Do Fantasticon preparation: Only a month left until our local SF&F con kicks off, and I have some final prep work I've been neglecting since before Easter. I definitely owe it to the rest of the group to get that done. It's not a lot, though, so it should be manageable.

*Box* Finish a story for Stupefying Stories: I probably shouldn't be aiming for reaching any writing deadlines, but the magazine is running a final flash fiction contest and I have an idea ready, so this is where I'll focus my writing energy to begin with.

*Box* Catch up on projects at work: I wouldn't normally put work related stuff on here, but being away from work for so long, I've lost the overview of my assignments and fallen behind to a degree where it affects my ability to focus on writing and reading.

Stretch Goals I don't really expect to reach any of these, but it's probably good to have something to strive for if the week turns out better than expected.

*Box* Do vocal exercises: This is probably one of the easier goals, and probably should go on the core list, but there's only so stuff I can focus on right now.

*Box* Get exercise: Another one I would've liked to go onto the core list, especially since getting some exercise might actually give me some extra energy. It will be quite a time drain, and I don't have a specific target in mind, so I will keep here.

*Box* Eat healthy: Again, a vague goal. But I should keep my snacking to a minimal.

*Box* Do a review: I was getting into the habit of doing reviews again before I got sick the first time around. I don't think I'll have the time to start up, but I would really like to.

*Box* Be active on Codex: Another vague goal. I probably won't do much, but I hope to get around to checking on the forums at least.

*Box* Submit stories: It's very unlikely that I will get to this goal, but if I find some extra time, thinning the backlog of stories that needs to go out for submission again would be nice.
