Hello

I used to get notifications when someone would tag one of my items in their posts. The last few months, I have not been getting these notifications. There have also been a couple instances where I noticed someone tagged my handle in a forum post and I didn't get a notification...

Did I somehow turn this off? How would I go about checking this?

Greets,

No, I don't think you can turn them off.

The only time you shouldn't get tagged is if an item is private or you don't have access to it. I'm not entirely sure offhand how it handles group-only item restrictions and things like that. If someone has a forum private to do work on it, and they tag you or your item and then they make it public again after the work is done, your item would be tagged, but no notification would have been made while it was private.

In the future, try to take note of those kinds of things and maybe we'll have some more info to work from. I'm not aware of any current bugs with the tagging system like you describe... so more specifics would help to see if there IS a bug for you.

For instance...

My contest was tagged here: "Entry 7"  Open in new Window.

Also tagged here:

"Note: Details: "A poetry contest with a minim..."

"I Don't TalkOpen in new Window.

None of these items have group restrictions. They are set to registered users/author or above.

Strange that these all happen to be tags of my forum. But I'm not getting notifications about other items being tagged either, I've just noticed these specific instances lately. I didn't get notifications for any of these.

I've noticed also that if I enter a contest, and the forum owner tags my item in the forum, I might get a notification the first time. But, say I enter again the following month with a different item, I don't get the notification when the new item is tagged.

Not a big deal. Honestly, I've noticed this for a while, I just haven't gotten around to asking about it.

Ok, probably easy answers actually.

You won't get notifications on Writing.Com Support Author Icon newsfeed posts because of the way I set those up.

We don't have tagging on in forum posts because of signatures and the general likelihood of "over notification" nature of tagging in forum posts... It's hard to remember all the things, but yeah we had briefly tried that many years ago when I first added tagging. It was overwhelming some people with popular items / events / activities. I turned it off as it would need a special system to be able to handle muting individual item tags, etc.

We only notify user tags in forum posts.

Off the top of my head, non-support newsfeed posts and items are probably the only place item tags work.

Best,
