With everything else, we can click on the item/post/note/etc. number and it is automatically copied, but this doesn't seem to be the case for interactives. When I click them, they seem to simply refresh the page. I don't do much with interactives, but is this what is supposed to happen? I tried to copy it the old fashioned way by highlighting it and it kept trying to highlight the whole page (when I was going from right to left). I don't recall if I tried going from left to right or if that failed, too. I realize I don't do much with interactives and those that do tend to not know much about WdC, but I was just wondering about how this was supposed to work, if it was a bug, if I misunderstood the usage, etc. If it's supposed to refresh the page, can we get a way to copy the chapter number that doesn't involve having 2 tabs open and going back and forth between them remembering a few letters/numbers at a time? I would just use the refresh button at the top, but that's me. lol But we could just have a refresh button next to the chapter number and then have the chapter number so it can be easily copiable. ![]() Or am I missing something? Yeah, I'm probably missing something. But be impressed I didn't post in the Bug forum this time! Hahaha! |
Okay - no auto-copy, needs to be a manual copy-paste. I have Dynamic Interactives Off, as I (insert certain word here)-ing hate it! - as having it On would cause you to open 100+ pages of material after a while, which is a pain in the rear for older/slower computers. Personally, I prefer just reading the individual page I want to read, and not all the others before/after it.

Greets, Offhand, I'm not sure why the chapter number links back to the chapter... I'll look more into that as time allows. Best, ~~SM A Few Helpful Tips... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm going to be honest, and you won't like what I have to say, but I've talked to a number of former WdC people, and one of the things that they agree on is this - you've pretty much given interactives the Red-Headed Stepchild treatment - https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RedHeadedStepchild What do I mean by this? Well, many folks, myself included, came here because of locating an interactive. We liked to read them, try to navigate the various paths, to see if Jane Smith, who was trapped on an island full of deadly creatures, can manage to survive, maybe get rescued, or if she'll end up as some lion's lunch - it was fun to find out the routes. Problem is, you don't seem to see them like the treasure that they are. I mean, if I got an off-site notification that someone had added to an interactive that I run/add-to, and I clicked on the link from my off-site account while at work, there's a chance that I'll get a "Limit Reached. Please Sign in!" type of thing - that's an annoyance, and a time-waster, if I merely want to take a quick look, and thus think up a response that I'll write when I get off work. Funny thing is, I could close out of the page, and try the link again, and it would work, but that 5-10 seconds of being annoyed ruins the pleasure I would have otherwise had from just being able to read it. Now, don't get me wrong - I understand making it so that folks with Upgraded Memberships are the ones to create/maintain them, but Free and Guest users need to have the chance to actually enjoy them, so that they can decide that it would be even more enjoyable to make them themselves, and thus take the steps needed to getting out the credit/debit card, and thus buy an Upgraded Membership - those fellas feel like they've been getting the stick treatment, and no carrot cake, and thus, don't feel like buying/join, as, to them, the place feels like a Pay-to-Win type of thing, where you can't even stand a chance to have fun with the starting gear. I mean, it's like joining some CoD/TF2/whatever type of game server as a Guest, and all you get is a Pistol with 7 rounds, and two more clips of 7 each, plus a knife, and other weapons are a pain to get to, while the Paid Player with the Premium Package automatically starts off with an M4A1 with thirty rounds, 3 thirty round magazines, a Mossberg shotgun with 8 buckshot-shells, plus 24 more shells, 3 frag grenades, and a Claymore Sword - not a fun match for a casual player, don't you think? In short, interactives need more love, as they are like the gateway to this place. If not for them, I wouldn't have discovered this place. So, might be a good idea to show them some appreciation.

Greets, You can correct me if I’m wrong but the gist of your post seems to be basically we just need to fund unlimited traffic (and scrapers) to the interactive story section of the site. While we did that for close to two decades, indeed that time has ended — along with most of the other sites on the internet that have moved to outright paywalls… or worse, disappeared completely, taking all of the content with them. I understand people want everything for free. It’s just not going to happen. If that loses us people, I understand and it’s something I accept. We can’t please everyone all of the time and I will always do what’s in the best interest to the long term stability of Writing.Com. The limiters will stay in place, but I’m very open to additional tools and updates to the system to improve the experience -- again, aside from the requirement that people chip in to enjoy them. To be clear I have nothing against the interactive users who are willing to support our site and our community and I do personally get a lot of enjoyment coding for the interactive including a lot of the updates I’ve made in the recent years … which I gather you don’t like, but others do. ![]() Best, SM A Few Helpful Tips... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I’m going to close this thread following my previous response. We are no longer on a tech support topic here. You are welcome to email me. 👍 Best, SM A Few Helpful Tips... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Well, if you don't mind, I want to know about when was the last time you decided to read an interactive, or added to one (via an undercover alias of course), for the sheer pleasure of it, and not as part of some test/CR correction? Also, and don't take this the wrong way, but just someone tells you that they like something, doesn't mean that they do. Me, I'm like the Poetry Master in the story of the King (you're the King in this case) that writes terrible poetry that all others say is great. Well, maybe not quite like that, as I know that I can't write code or anything like that, but I'm also not afraid to look at something, that all others praise, and honestly say, "there's a problem here with how this was done." I mean, I understand the need to make sure that a user needs Upgraded Membership to make them - it's sad to locate an abandoned account with interactives that are now filled with gibberish by trolls and the like. I can even understand the page limits thingy - I don't like them, but I can understand them, as they can foil bots that don't use refresh. But, the Dynamic Interactive aspect, I'll be honest, I'm trying to figure out how that makes things easier or more pleasurable for readers. Mind walking me through the thought process there? I'm kind of curious about the idea behind it (even if I am not a fan of it).
