How much of the planet is going to be used?

There is no problem in designing a whole planet, its ecosystems, its fauna/flora, its history, etc. Go wild! Have fun! World-building is something so many writers really enjoy.

However, when it comes to the actual story, remember Hemingway's Iceberg: "20240929 Hemingway On Info-dumps" 

So, enjoy the process!
