Day Two
Exercise 2 : Local Geography

Outline the physical environment and how it might influence the people who live in the region.

This should include:
*AsteriskB* Climate and weather, including seasons.
*AsteriskB* The topography (the natural and artificial physical features of an area). e.g. forests, water sources, soil and stone types, etc.
*AsteriskB* What's on the borders of you 'world'? Is it a city that gives way to rural land? A country bordering on another? A school district?
*AsteriskB* Are there any key landmarks within the region that might develop significance? Like a hill with a fort, or a lighthouse on the coast, or a sprawling cave system?
*AsteriskB* What restrictions does the area put on the people living there? What advantages does it offer that would have enticed people to settle there originally?

1. Many zones of weather in this story arc as it happens over many worlds. So, in saying that I get to have fun with sky, flora fauna descriptions as well as rain, smells and sounds of each world. From no moons to many, from red sullen suns frozen on the horizon, to paradise worlds of white sands ... and well things that want to eat you *Pthb* .... Anyway, yes, I am planning out each world carefully. The Raven Queen world is largely set in a temperate climate to start with but there are parts where we see warm southern lands and frozen wastes. In fact, the Raven queen starts just at the end of winter in book one and ends at high summer, while the second book moves through summer into winter again.

2. 'The Never Verse,' has many lands but in this question, I will focus on the Raven Queen world "Iralia.' The province of Oshelila has two main weather zones due to the mountain ranges that contain it. One called "The Spine of the world," is colossal and the other is called the middle range and a bit less than half its size and length. Between them flows the river Oshe which gives the region its name 9In world language developed for this world). In the south as it gets warmer, they grow "Wet Grass" we would know it as rice. While in the north it is more like the great Black Forest in Germany. The city of Oshelila sits in folded downs to the east while the port city of Mengia sits in the north on a coastal plain. I could go on but as you can see a well-developed world. Would even post a map if I could here.

3. Simple answer is ocean. and mysterious unknown lands.... have to keep some mystery here. But outside of the middle kingdoms where the story unfolds you get names and little hints of story but little more than that. I wanted a world that had a large feel to it, but also wanted to keep things a bit of a mystery as well.

4. Hard question to answer... but in the case of Oshelila it is rich and has outlawed slavery in it boarders. The same as Naxia on the eastern side of the great range. But in the west the attraction would be to get close to the seat of imperial power and the wealth drawn from that. The south offers warm climate but little else. What I worked toward here is a set of nation states ruled by an imperial government that in all honesty has little power. I wanted each region to have a flavor that blurs along the boarders as you see in the real world.
