I personally enjoy Isekai as a genre, but you’re definitely right that there’s way too many isekai around these days. There are some good ones out there, but you have to sort through mountains upon mountains of nonsense that all just tends to blend together at some point to find something worth reading.
I was reading a story a few months ago that was partially making fun of Isekai, particularly the tendency in a lot of the trashier Isekai to have MCs buy a slave. The story is called “His Soul is Marching On to Another World,” and it’s about the historical John Brown being reborn in a generic isekai fantasy world and continuing his abolitionist work in this new world. It’s not the best story in the world, but it’s pretty funny story and premise.
Anybody here read/watch Log Horizon? That’s a pretty fun Isekai.
In terms of mobile games, I’ve long since sold my soul to Fate/Grand Order lol. Really great story in that game, even if it is a gacha game. Fate is general is a great franchise, would recommend.
