I think the answer to that question is that whoever was impersonating Elle in that scene either copied her before she was told about the soccer game, or she never knew about it in the first place.

Just as a crackpot theory, given that Elle backed out and Laura was free to come, and if we assume that Laura is Clover Mystery and that she’s interested in Will, it might be that she copied Elle to set up the initial situation with the intent to back out as Elle and step in as herself. As to why that might have happened, if we’re going off the of self image issues, then it’s possible she thought Will would refuse to come if he thought he’d be going with her, but might not back out if it was spring on him as a change in plans. Convoluted, I know, but this entire storyline is complicated lol.
