A month-long novel-planning challenge with prizes galore. |
So... the countdown to actually writing the novel planned through October is ticking loudly. As such, I would like to offer the following bits of advice: 1) What you are writing is your first draft. It does not have to be perfect. Just write and get the story down. Drafts two and onwards are where you fix things. 2) NaNo is not about completing a work - it's about getting 50k words of a work done. If you don't finish your story, but write 50,001 words, you are a winner. 3) The plan you have developed this month is not prescriptive. Plans change. If what you planned does not work, change your plan. No-one is going to tell you off. 4) Even if you do not make 50k words, the fact you are writing anything is a positive. You are writing. That is important. 5) It is not a competition, not a contest. The only person you are competing against, really, is yourself. Do not judge yourself against others. If X writes 100k words and Y writes 50k words, according to NaNo guidelines, both are winners. 6) Enjoy yourself. Good luck to everyone giving ational Novel Writing Month a go for 2023! |
