It doesn't have to be actual magic that's introduced, merely the BELIEF in magic. Like the original Planet of the Apes series, with those weirdos worshiping the nuke as a god-type thing. Not magic exactly, but without technology, human society collapsed into various cults and enclaves consisting of different belief systems. The magic itself didn't have to be real.
