1. How thick is the book? As thick as it needs to be and no thicker. Serious answer: I had no idea when I started BoM how thick it needed to be, so I never said anything about it. Since then I've run into the problem that there are not enough spells to give it an appreciable thickness. My own head canon—and I'll emphasize that it's head canon, not real canon—is that it's about an inch thick, and that there are likely many, many blank pages in it at the back, reserved for users of the book to add their own related discoveries to it. 2. Von G. This character is a slow-evolving one. Wordsmitty rightly remembers the figure that Will met. Early on I had no idea who he was; eventually I discovered it was von G. Who is von G and what is he up to? That is still in the air. The long-time assumption, by myself and others, is that he is the Big Bad. I've grown less certain of that. Certainly he is retrograde, and the book is his phylactery, but I now wonder if he is better understood as pursuing a very deep project that requires "retrograde motion" to realize, and that he himself is not malignant. But I don't know what that would be, so what I've just said is only a potential idea. |
