I read Mireya's backstory first and then Will living as her five years later. Mireya's a delightful character, but the Will-as-Mireya chapters were really strong writing. Mireya's backstory a lil' less so—I think by dint of it answering some
of the 'how did we get here' question rather than being a fully fleshed-out standalone story: there were parts of the backstory that didn't really seem to have time to breathe. Or, like time to grow so we feel it instead of being told we should feel it? If that makes sense.
Not a complaint though: the faster we get through the backstories, the faster Mireya—hopefully—gets revived. Like, I love her already, and the backstory worked as flashback-like scenes in an action-mystery adventure with some romance.
I think Mireya's one of my top 3 favorite characters to read in this 'verse—whether it's her or Will-Jeff—so kudos and thanks for that.
