I like the idea behind "The Test Department" because it's a hub for stories that aren't connected to just Westside. I also liked a lot the story about Marion, and I feel bad that it wasn't continued. (And yeah: the moment I learned about Fane, I instantly realized that was the intention behind the CRISPR thing that Robyn overheard about her husband - it's the technology behind the tattoos that Project Diana uses.) Though it could use a revision, I really liked the foreshadowing that came from that vision Will has, which slowly unravels as the story goes. I'd really feel bad if it's gone, and if you feel like fixing it, I'd love to give you a hand on it. It's one of the stories I first read when I learned about Book of Masks, so it has a bit of a special place on my heart because it's representative of everything I like about the interactive. (The other is the branch where Will becomes Cathy Schell, and it hurt a bit to see that branch pruned out, but it should be for the best as it actually introduced Katy to the story, instead of just leaving her on the sidelines to focus on Stephanie.) Also: I didn't even notice the mischaracterization. Marion's her own character, Will's a blank slate, there's very little to be said about Brent Pruitt, and the story moves away from Westside pretty quickly. (Or do you mean that detour into Hannah to spy in, IIRC, was written badly?) |
