The best day at my job is Book Day! This is the day I deliver their newly published books to any of my authors. Finally, after all their hard work, their angst, their pride, their spazzing, their tears, their rewrites and revisions, the editing, and the sheer giddiness, I hand them their complete book.
They are like kids on their birthday receiving the present they wanted most in the world. They stare at their book. They (seriously!) pet the cover. They flip through it. Tears stream and the smiles are just dazzling! Their heads are high and they stand straighter. What so many naysayers have told them has all been for naught because they stand there, a published writer.
So many times I hear them say, "I really am an author! I'm a writer now." Doesn't matter that I tell them that they already were or we wouldn't be standing there with them holding their book. This is that moment when (sometimes for the first time,) they really believe it, and at that moment, they believe in themselves. Best moment? Priceless!
