Well ... Without knowing who that since-departed author was and the context for the discussion about making stuff "non-canonical" I can't authoritatively comment on how or whether it is similar to what I'm doing now. As for "The Test Department," there is nothing wrong with any of those objections you imagine, and I never said that I had those objections. I specifically said that branches like that one weren't even candidates for editing or removal. There are and will be plenty of undeveloped and outlandish places that I will leave untouched, and which I will leave untouched precisely because I like them! There is only one place that I am looking to remove content for being outlandish or undeveloped, and that is in branches that I myself have written, and even then I'm not removing them because they are outlandish or undeveloped but because I personally have grown to dislike them. There is a difference between answering Prussian's question "Why did you cut X?" with "I disliked it because it went into a cul-de-sac" and announcing, "I am going to cut every chapter that goes into a cul-de-sac." I am not trying to remove every inconsistency or dangly bit. I am only trying to get rid of the worst inconsistencies, and I am cutting dangly bits that I have written and which bother me while I'm at it. As their author, I hope I have a proprietary right to say, "Yikes! I wish I hadn't written that!" and to get rid of it as long as I'm already doing other clean up. That is all. |
