1. Autumn is a time of slowing down, shutting down all of the frenzy of growth and change. We need the slowing down to accept the time of stopping, winter. Not all things stop because humans have decided that our activity should go on while the world around us slumbers. 2. A) Conversation with my girlfriend, we are working on enjoying our isolation and we do things and bring up things to laugh about. I enjoy playing the fool for her, I am an accomplished actor so her being audience and enjoying it gives me pleasure. B) Reading a short story written by Tobias Wolff, the master short-story teller of our time according to David Mamet. C) Finding out several of the worlds more vociferous leaders who spread lies and strife about the pandemic now have the virus. Sorry (not really), but I couldn’t think of a more fitting punishment for the promoters of the problems we Now have. 3. The best was Squeeze Me by Carl Hiaasen, a parody of Trump, his family and how he runs things. It’s one of the more humorous things I’ve read in years. 4. When I was 5 years old, 1947, my parents got divorced. She remarried and had a third child and because having children with different last names in the same household was socially frowned on she just started using her new married last name for all of us and my middle name was changed (unofficially) to my previous last name. There was no problem until I retired. After 65 years of working under my step-fathers name getting social security took almost 3 years. I had to prove that the person on my birth certificate deserved the money collected under a different name. A huge pain in a soft spot. |
