I like the idea that the world is the protagonist. Perhaps everything in that world is going just fine, until one little thing, and it just a very tiny thing, that disrupts the balance, of said world. Think of our world now, think of how one tiny thing, a virus, has disrupted our way of life so drastically from the way it was one year ago. Did you think at this time last year wearing a mask would be ordinary? SO, your world could have the same effect on the antagonists, or vice versa. Just an idea that ran across my brain as I read your post.
