I like this. He does like shiny things, doesn't he? And he definitely wants to be home. It's even in the subtitle, "There and Back Again." But is it possible that deep down he secretly desires some change in his life? What exactly was the trigger that caused him to accept the call to adventure? Was it possible he was already primed for adventure?
Any chance that treasure is his goal and Smaug stands in the way? Or is that too obvious?
It might come down to what causes the protagonist to change at that moment we define as the climax. That might help us pinpoint what his goal(s) were and what stood in the way.
Anyone have any thoughts as the when the climax occurs in The Hobbit?
