Well, all chapters for Seuzz are now submitted and I think he’s happy, so I can speak a little more freely. There are three big challenges that I had with this arc. The first was making a plausible reason for JM to proceed with each step of the mask making process - particularly as she did not read Latin. For this I fell back on classic teen angst. The second was picking a victim. I cheated here, and made up a list of possibilities - weighted by plausibility - of who was going to be an impediment to the story (intentional or otherwise). I numbered them and asked Seuzz to choose one at random. Seuzz picked the rarest option - Tammy-Lynn. This led to JM making a mask from Stephanie Wyatt (I won’t explain the hows and whys) as it *wasn’t* a mask of other options. I first considered Tammy-Lynn discovering what the book was, but I found that too much of a stretch. Instead, her antagonism was very simple and true to character: she is a blabbermouth, so she told people about the book. The third challenge relates to the inherent limitations of JM compared with Will, both in terms of ability and assets. You’ll have to wait to see how that plays out. |
