I guess everyone is pondering how to answer since both options are interesting. Now that you've teased us with more on each, it's still hard to pick. However, I think I'd go with Option 1 which has now gotten Ali's friends controlling the masks and book.
Of course, getting WIll out of the hole he's gotten into might not go where my mind had an idea about, but that happens all the time, and I'm not disappointed. (I need to get back to adding again. {E:quill)
