Message forum for readers of the BoM/TWS interactive universe. |
As I wrote in the "About this Message Forum" post (first in the forum): Readers can find BoM/TWS both intimidating and inaccessible. Inaccessible because of the WdC-imposed constraints on interactive usage, and intimidating because it is so big and convoluted. I'd like to hear ideas about getting around both of these. Accessibility: I've been making recent storylines accessible by posting them as linked stand-alone items, but there is no way that I can make all of BoM accessible as a non-interactive item. It is simply too large. However, I can make parts of it accessible. Approachability: It seems to me that BoM could be made accessible to newbies if they were presented with a restricted set of storylines. These storylines would be chosen to give newbies a couple of things. (1) They would be entertaining (dur). (2) They would isolate and present a restricted part of the magic. (3) They would isolate and present a restricted set of characters. Preferably, I could do something that would be both approachable and accessible. Here's my first stab at an idea: Create a WdC "book" that contains a storyline. As a book, the item would not be subject (I think!) to WdC bandwidth constraints. As a constrained storyline (no branches) it would not overwhelm with choices. And the storyline should (I hope!) be entertaining and restricted in what it throws at the new reader. Here is a two-chapter example: "The Book of Masks (Vol. 1)" We would have discussions on which storylines to present in this way, and probably polls. |
