I think the trick question to ask while we are winging the resolutions is, why. Why would my MC do this? Why would this action relate to the main theme? Etc.
We can put any one thing while we are brainstorming, which is fine, but when we choose the final resolution we should take care.
I am saying this because in two of my unrevised novels, a car chase and a trip to Disneyworld take place. They have little or nothing to do with the backstory or the MC's arc. I put them there, when I knew less, because I thought the novels had turned dull. Not a good reason!
