Personally, when I'm writing - working on detailed Prep assignments or working on NaNo, not just writing comments like this - I have a desk where I sit with a pull-out keyboard tray. I bought a USB keyboard and plug it into the laptop. So basically, I turn my laptop into a desktop for the purpose of writing.
