Out of curiosity when did interactive stories become unavailable to free users during heavy use times? This site is always getting heavy use so it pretty much blocks free users from enjoying interactive stories. When did this happen and why? |
This question belongs in "Technical Support Forum" ![]() This post from that forum is dated 1 Sep 2015: "Re: Server volume message" ![]() ![]() As to why, interactives use a lot of server resources, and the ads on interactives don't come close to paying for what it costs to run them. Hope that helps. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ~~Image #6000 Sharing Restricted~~ ~~Image #603504 Sharing Restricted~~ |
This is obviously a total lie made as part of a spam, if you want to scam people great, you'll get suckers for customers while driving away people who have any sort of common sense. Interactive stories are run on many other sites easily, so you obviously have no idea what you're doing. So go ahead and drive away potential customers. It probably would be better for business the other way around. |
To be clear, we did, for many years (like well over a decade), pay for as much cloud server resources as needed. It’s not a technical issue. The site is perfectly capable of supporting the many thousands that try to view the site. We just got tired of paying the money to do that. So now we save money on our cloud services by limiting how much of our resources are available to FREE members. That’s not “a scam”, though we appreciate your sincere concern for the site’s well being. Best, SM

What do you mean by "got tired of paying the money to do that?" Were the interactives limiting your profits significantly? Were they making you lose money? Just curious. |
Also, if you tell people that interactives are unavailable "due to server and resource limitations' when in fact the site is "perfectly capable of supporting the many thousands that try to view the site" and you use the supposed to limitations to encourage people to pay for a membership, then yes, that is a scam. |
Greets, We’re not adding capacity to the Interactive Stories segment to support free members. Even with our limitations in place, we’re still serving somewhere in the neighborhood of 700,000 interactive story pages per day... again, that’s despite having these limitations in place at their current level since January 2018. I do understand that you feel we should pay unlimited amounts to service whatever free member traffic comes to the site. We’ll just rationally agree to disagree on this point. ![]() I do apologize that you feel we’re not giving you enough for free. While I wanted to reply, I’m not going to try to change your mind. ![]() ![]() As a long time member, you’ve likely noticed the much better page layout with way less ads; only a couple non-intrusive Amazon ads... Which, mind you, the site only earns from on the rare days someone actually buys something. We will probably remove them in the near future. All the same, we do think this light ad layout provides a much better experience overall than the overcrowded attempts we made in the past to try to support the service via ads -- none of which ever panned out. (Obviously, if we were earning enough through ads, it would be a fail on our part to remove them and to try to cut the traffic down.) Enjoy! ![]() Best wishes, ~~SM
