Depends on the author. For me time lines do me no good. I already know the story is going to play out as I write it chronologically. I Use ywriter5 which is a free use program created by a programer turned author. I put in each chapter with a description of what I want to cover in the chapter. Then I go back in in November and write each chapter.
If you need the time line then whichever one works for you. Some of us hate templates some of us love them. It's how you feel that is important.
