Just documenting comments from IMs: Dialog between Brandiwynš¶ and Storm Machine B: I keep coming back to comparisons to the Silmarillion. Backstories, but readable. I think it might be cool to include that in the title. "Silmarillion" I mean, not the "readable" thing S: I would also put it into a publishing sense- that it would be easier to have a short story or two as freebies and cheapies to better sell your novels -even/especially traditionally published novels. Because we're not big names that get tons of marketing. We're the little guys who will STRUGGLE for every single sale. (another thing from the WPR book) yeah. I know what you mean. I'm not sure i'll get to the silmarillion, though I think I might own it. B: But do you think everybody pretty much knows what it is? I tried reading it several times, but it reads like the Bible... or a history book... not particularly narrative. Boring. But the gist is that it's world-building backstories that are published. If people get the connection... plus it's Tolkien. I mean, who doesn't respect Tolkien? S: It'd be a start. And we could probably look up contemporary examples AND we could explain the theory behind having all this stuff put together. Regards, Michelle |
