Try this one. Boy finds egg (where does he find the egg? On a remote mountain top, in a forest, under the ocean blue?) What kind of dragon is it, what sort of powers does it have? Why was he the one to find it? Who else wants to find it?

When trying to come up with conflict, I like to try to ask questions. Simple questions, to complicated ones. Get to know your character. Submerse yourself into the story. Tweak it here and tweak it there. There is always a gold nugget somewhere. I find that when I am having trouble with a story (which is always), I need to step away from the story, but getting started on it again, is a different matter.

Find your character's and villain's greatest need and that's where you will find your conflict.
