So, here's what happened to me last year: I had about three main plots and a slew of subplots. I planned the whole thing, but the first part was the most detailed because I spent more time on it throughout October. So when November came around, I wrote 50k words, and - tada! it took me through about 1/3 of the book and one major plot resolution (but leaving the other three hanging.)
It was clearly too complicated for one NaNo (for me). So this year, I'm working on the 2nd of three parts. I still have subplots going on, but my general outline is only focused on one of my major plots. Maybe later I'll weave scenes into one another so the reader jumps from one thing to the other, but I'm simplifying for now.
