It is five thirty and Christine and Terry were playing a basketball game outside “It’s sure hot outside. Do you want to go inside and get some water?” Terry asked. “Sure,” Christine replied. They went inside and Terry got out two drinking glasses and poured some water in the glasses. They sat at the kitchen table. Their mom (Ginger) walked in and said, “I was watching the weather channel and it looks like we’re going to get a thunderstorm.” “I’m glad we’re not playing basketball anymore,” Christine said. “You’re right. What kind of a thunderstorm is it?” Terry asked. “A very bad one with wind and everything else a thunderstorm can have,” Ginger replied. James (their father) walked in and said, “A bad storm is coming.” “We know, mom just told us,” Christine said. “Is there any hail?” Terry asked. “Looks like it,” Ginger replied. “Should we go undercover?” Christine asked. “The storm’s not supposed to start until tonight. It’s six now and it’s time for dinner,” Ginger replied. “What are having for dinner?” Terry asked. “Fish,” Ginger replied. An hour later after dinner Ginger is cleaning up in the kitchen. “Look how dark the sky is,” Christine said. “It’s dark because it’s nighttime,” Ginger said. It started to rain really hard against the windows. “Or, maybe that’s why it’s dark,” Christine said. The trees started to bend over and lightning stroked. They all ran in the basement when they heard the sirens. When the storm stopped and the sirens stopped they went outside. It was nice and cool and they saw that some of the trees have been knoked over. “So, much for going in the basement it wads just a bad storm not a tornado,” James said. They went back inside to get some rest for the night. (WC 300) |
