Yes, Fairbanks is a smaller population based city compared to Anchorage. Now Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, with Fairbanks being the second largest. Now if you need coastal communities there are many. We have the Juneau the state capital. Valdez is the fishing central port most common for both oil and fish. There is Kodak island where the worlds largest brown bear once lived. Then there is Seward a sea and mountain looked city that was built in WWII there are only two ways into there one is by water the other is through a mountain tunnel that goes straight to Anchorage, Well you can take a small airplane in to Seward as long as the plane has floats too.
Just a few of the coastal communities that might be able to help out your story.
Sincerely yours, Silverwindrose
