When I feel totally lacking in creative thoughts, but I still have that itch to write, I pull out my notebook and hand-write a flow-of-thoughts entry... usually I get somewhere interesting eventually... I find that handwriting taps into something that typing never can - although, just typing is more efficient when things are flowing OK (easier to cut and paste and rearrange at will).
