Re: So . . . What motivates you to write?
Hm? What? Sorry... I was trying to write something...

Motivation, motivation... well, there are times when I have something to say, and then it's really easy to write. There are other times when I really don't have anything pressing on my mind, but I get that ticklish feeling at the back of my head that tells me just to start typing, and something will begin to take shape from my subconscious.

Then there are times when I need some trigger mechanism, and playing prompt games or entering contests like the ones we and our colleagues run here on WdC are great ways to stimulate something.

Then, of course, there are times when a particularly disappointing rejection notice arrives, and I'm so depressed I feel like chucking it all and look for a job pumping gas. Those times are when it's most important to turn back to the keyboard and immerse myself in the worlds I create, for it is only there that I can be the person I truly am: a creator of universes, a motivator of characters, a brewer of conflict, a designer of diabolical mystery. There, I can let go of the frustrations of the world of publishing, and concern myself only with the frustrations I create for myself, and solve the puzzles I set between me and my ultimate goal:

THE END

Best regards,
