The current setup gives thousands of items that change as members log on and off; for example, the pool of random items is 4,500 at the current moment. For the vast majority of people, that size pool with items changing in it throughout the day is more than plenty and keeps the exposure on members who are online at the moment, which encourages people to be online and also extends the chances of a reviewer getting a fast response to any review they may send.

But, if you're exhausting that pool and reading through all of those to the point you see doubles when you click the random read icon, that's great -- way to go! To get more into the pool, you can just use the item listings around the site to create your own pool -- just use the sorting field and choose "Completely Random".

For example, the static item list sorted randomly:
          http://www.writing.com/main/list_items/item_type/statics/sort_by/RAND()
